James Patrick Freetly
Screenwriter

Original feature screenplays rooted in character, relationships, humor, conflict, and visual storytelling.

Introduction

James Patrick Freetly is a screenwriter working in feature-length narrative film. He is a graduate of the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting and has completed five original feature screenplays, developed both within that program and independently.

His work centers on character-driven stories — the friction between people, the humor that survives conflict, and the visual choices that let a scene say more than its dialogue.

Writing

James's process moves from character outward: discovery drafting, structural revision, table reads, and reader feedback shape each script before it's considered finished. Acting and photography backgrounds inform how he thinks about performance, composition, and image.
